Who we are
It Does Matter is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered in England & Wales. As a Foundation CIO, our trustees are also the only voting members of the charity. This structure is set out in the Charity Commission’s model constitution for Foundation CIOs.
We are governed by our constitution, which defines our charitable purposes, trustee responsibilities, and the legal framework within which we operate.
1. To advance education in relation to non‑contact sexual offences, their impact, lawful reporting pathways, and the prevention of violence against women and girls.
2. To prevent crime and promote public safety by increasing understanding of non‑contact sexual offences and supporting constructive engagement with police and relevant authorities.
3. To advance good citizenship by promoting safe, lawful and responsible behaviour.
These objects are formally published within our CIO registration record.

Trustees collectively make key strategic decisions, following the Charity Commission’s expectations for sound governance, proper record‑keeping, and evidence‑based decision‑making.
We hold regular trustee meetings to:
-
Review our charitable activities and impact
-
Approve policies and budgets
-
Oversee risk, safeguarding and compliance
-
Plan and monitor long‑term strategy
As a Foundation CIO, all formal decisions rest with the trustee body.
We use the Charity Governance Code as a framework for continuous improvement. This sector‑developed code sets out universal principles of effective governance, including leadership, decision‑making, ethics, diversity and board effectiveness.
